Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure
Gauge
Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.
- Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator retaining ring.
- Remove the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator.
- Remove the retainer clip
from the fuel pressure regulator (6).
- Lift and twist the fuel pressure regulator in order to remove
the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel pressure regulator housing using
a shop towel to catch any spilled fuel.
- Remove the regulator seal lower O-ring (2).
- Remove the regulator assembly filter (3).
- Remove the regulator seal upper O-ring (4).
- Remove the regulator seal back-up ring (5).
- Cover the fuel pressure regulator housing to prevent contamination
from entering the fuel system.
Installation Procedure
Notice:
• | Do not use compressed air in order to test or clean a fuel pressure
regulator as damage to the fuel pressure regulator may result. |
• | Clean the fuel pressure regulator filter screen with gasoline
if necessary. |
• | Do not immerse the fuel pressure regulator in a solvent bath in
order to prevent damage to the fuel pressure regulator. |
- Install the new O-rings
on the fuel pressure regulator, if a new fuel pressure regulator is not being
installed. Lubricate the O-rings lightly with clean engine oil.
- Install the regulator seal back-up ring (5).
- Install the regulator seal upper O-ring (4).
- Install the regulator assembly filter (3).
- Install the regulator seal lower O-ring (2).
- Install the retainer clip to the fuel pressure regulator (6).
- Install the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator.
- Install the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine
Electrical.
- Inspect for leaks.
9.1. | Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds. |
9.2. | Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds. |
9.3. | Turn the ignition switch ON. |
9.4. | Visually inspect the fuel system for fuel leaks. |
- Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
- Install the intake manifold
sight shield (1) to the engine.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the intake
manifold sight shield nuts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
