Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Inoperative W/ Column Shifter

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. Listen for an audible click when the park relay operates. Command both the ON and OFF states. Repeat the commands as necessary.

  2. Tests for voltage at the coil side of the park relay. The IGN SW Fuse supplies power to the coil side of the park relay through the ignition switch.

  3. Verifies that the Rear Integration Module (RIM) is providing ground to the park relay.

  4. Tests if ground is constantly being applied to the park relay.

  5. Tests for voltage at the switch side feed circuit of the park relay. The Prk/Rev Fuse supplies power to the switch side feed circuit of the park relay.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the park relay ON and OFF.

Do you hear a click when you command the park relay ON and OFF?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the park relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the coil side feed circuit of the park relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

  1. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the park relay and the coil side feed circuit of the park relay.
  2. With a scan tool, command the park relay ON and OFF.

  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the feed circuit of the stoplamp/automatic transmission shift lock control switch with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  6. With a scan tool, command the park relay ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Reconnect the stoplamp/automatic transmission shift lock control switch.
  3. Disconnect the auto trans shift lock control actuator.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the feed circuit of the auto trans shift lock control actuator with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  6. With a scan tool, command the park relay ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  2. With a scan tool, command the park relay ON.

Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Inoperative W/ Console Shifter

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. Listen for an audible click when the park relay operates. Command both the ON and OFF states. Repeat the commands as necessary.

  2. Tests for voltage at the coil side of the park relay. The IGN SW Fuse supplies power to the coil side of the park relay through the ignition switch.

  3. Verifies that the Rear Integration Module (RIM) is providing ground to the park relay.

  4. Tests if ground is constantly being applied to the park relay.

  5. Tests for voltage at the feed side of the park relay. The Prk/Rev Fuse supplies power to the feed side of the park relay.

  3. Disconnect the auto trans shift lock actuator assembly.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the internal relay coil side feed circuit of the auto trans shift lock actuator assembly harness connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  6. With a scan tool, command the park relay ON.
