Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Auto Trans Shift Lock Control System?

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock control switch.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  4. Attempt to move the shift lever out of the PARK position.

Does the sihft lever move out of the PARK position?

Test the automatic transmission shift lock control signal circuit for a short to battery positive voltage (B+). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in WIring Systems.

  1. Inspect the stoplamp/automatic transmission shift lock control switch for proper adjustment. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment in Hydraulic Brakes.
  2. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the stoplamp/automatic transmission shift lock control switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the stoplamp/automatic transmission shift lock control switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

    • Inspect the shift interlock actuator for proper adjustment and free mechanical movement. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Assemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
    • Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the shift interlock actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the automatic transmission shift lock control actuator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Assemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
