DEFINITION: This test applies to a tilt/telescoping steering column that has no movement at all.

1. Install a scan tool.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Observe the Telescope/Tilt Switch parameter in the Tilt/Telescope Module Data Display list while activating the tilt/telescoping manual switch from the Idle position to the Up, Down, In, and Out positions.

Do the parameters change state as expected?

Test the Power T&T fuse for an open.

Is the Power T&T fuse OK?

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Disconnnect the tilt/telescoping steering column module connector that contains both battery positive circuits and the ground circuit.
3. Test both battery positive circuits for an open or a high resistance.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the ground circuit for an open or high resistance.

Did you find and correct the condition?

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Disconnect the tilt/telescoping steering column module connector that contains both battery positive circuits and the ground circuit.
3. Test the battery positive circuit that includes the Power T&T fuse for a short to ground.

1. Disconnect both the tilt actuator and the telescope actuator harness connectors from the steering column module.
2. Replace the Power T&T fuse.
3. Reconnect one of the actuators.
4. Using the power tilt/telescoping steering column switch, operate the power tilt and telescoping to all positions.

Did the Power T&T fuse open again?

1. Reconnect the actuator that has not yet been reconnected.
2. Using the power tilt/telescoping steering column switch, operate the power tilt and telescoping to all positions.

Inspect for poor connections/terminal tension at the tilt/telescoping steering column switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections/terminal tension at the harness connector of the steering column actuator that caused the fuse to open. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections/terminal tension at the tilt/telescoping steering column module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the tilt/telescoping steering column switch. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Wheel and Telescope Switch Replacement .

Replace the steering column actuator that caused the fuse to open. Refer to Tilt Motor Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Telescope Motor Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
