  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the flash to pass switch input status in the DIM data list.

Does the flash to pass switch input status indicate OFF?

Go to Step 3

With a scan tool, observe the high beam output (flash to pass) output status.

Does the high beam output (flash to pass) output status indicate OFF?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
  2. Disconnect the HDLP HI BM relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Did the headlamps turn OFF?

Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the HDLP HI BM relay and the coil side feed circuit of the HDLP HI BM relay .

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the HDLP HI BM relay control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the HDLP HI BM relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the HDLP HI BM relay. Refer Headlamp Relay Replacement .

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp dimmer switch
  3. Turn On the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the flash to pass switch input status.

Does the flash to pass switch input status indicate OFF.

Inspect for poor connections at the headlamp dimmer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the headlamp dimmer switch. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

Repair the short to power in the high beam headlamp circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
