The headlamps consist of two interchangeable single filament bulbs which provide high and low beams. The lower bulb in the headlamp is the high beam and the upper bulb is the low beam. These bulbs also serve the daytime running lamp function.
The headlamp switch is located to the left of the instrument cluster. The headlamp switch includes controls for the park lamps, headlamps, front fog lamps, twilight sentinel, interior lamps, interior dimming, and export position lamps.
The ambient light sensor is located in the center of the defroster grille. The ambient light sensor is a photo transistor. The ambient light sensor output changes as the light level through the windshield changes. Daytime or nighttime conditions are determined by the value of the ambient light sensor. If an object is covering the ambient light sensor, the vehicle may act as if nighttime conditions exist even though it is daytime.
The front fog lamps consist of two clear bulbs. Each is located below the front bumper fascia. The front fog lamps provide additional lighting during foggy driving conditions.
The front park, side marker, and turn signal lamps are all an integral part of the headlamp assembly. The side marker lamp is amber in color and contains reflectors to alert approaching vehicles for nighttime driving safety.
The cornering lamps are located just in front of the front wheels. The cornering lamp is clear and lights the peripheral turn area of the vehicle. The cornering lamps only operate when the park lamps are on.
The tail, stop, and turn signal functions are performed by the quarter mounted tail lamps. The quarter mounted tail lamp consists of a red lens and light emitting diodes (LED) instead of incandescent bulbs. The rear side marker lamps are integral. The quarter mounted tail lamp wraps around the corner of the vehicle and serves as the rear side marker. The lower portion of the lamp contains reflectors to alert approaching vehicles for driving nighttime safety.
The high mount stop lamp is located along the rear compartment lid. It operates simultaneously with the rear stop lamps and provides increased visibility of vehicle braking.
The license lamps consist of two clear bulbs. They are located in the rear compartment lid above the license plate. The license lamps illuminate the license plate of the vehicle when the park lamps are on.
The repeater lamps are on export vehicles only. Each is located in the front fender. The repeater lamps are used as additional turn signal lamps for export vehicles.
The position lamps are on export vehicles only. Each is located in the headlamp assembly. European countries require that side position lamps are activated when the vehicle is parked along the side of the road. The position function will operate only with the gear selector in the PARK position. The front position lamp and the respective tail lamp illuminate during the position function.
The hazard switch is located in the center of the instrument panel above the HVAC controls. The hazard function uses all LH and RH turn lamps together.
The stoplamp/automatic transmission shift lock control switch is located under the instrument panel, near the top of the brake pedal.
The backup lamps are white, located in the rear compartment lid. They provide rear lighting and alert others when in reverse.
There are two courtesy lamps located in the overhead console and two courtesy lamps located in the rear of the headliner. Each lamp has a switch, which is used to turn the lamp on and off. There is also a courtesy lamp located in each door. Courtesy lamps are used to illuminate the vehicle during nighttime conditions. They can also be manually turned on or off using the interior lamp switch.
The underhood lamp is located in the engine compartment, on the LH rear of the hood.
The rear compartment lamp is located in the front center of the rear compartment.
The vanity lamps are located in the center of each sunshade.
The IP compartment lamp is located in the IP compartment on the RH side of the instrument panel.
The instrument cluster (IPC), radio, cellular telephone, and heater and A/C control assembly all have vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays, if equipped. The incandescent lamps include the ashtray lamp, rear blower switch, PRNDL lamp, traction control switch, four heated seat switches, steering wheel controls, two driver information center (DIC) switches, release switch assembly, headlamp switch, radio, heater and A/C control assembly, four power window switches, four power door lock switches, and memory function switch, if equipped. The incandescent lamps and VF displays can be dimmed to change the amount of light inside the vehicle.
