  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the headlamp switch to the PARK position.
  4. With a scan tool observe the park lamp switch input parameter in the data list.

Does the scan tool display ON status?

With a scan tool, command the park lamp relay ON and OFF.

Do the park lamps turn ON and OFF with each command?

  1. Disconnect the headlamp switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper wire from the park lamp switch input circuit to a good ground.
  3. With a scan tool observe the park lamp switch input parameter in the data list.

Does the scan tool display ON status?

  1. Connect a fused jumper wire from the park lamp switch input circuit to the headlamp switch ground circuit.
  2. With a scan tool observe the park lamp switch input parameter in the data list.

Test the park lamp switch input circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the headlamp switch assembly. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the ground circuit of the headlamp switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the park lamp relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the coil side feed circuit of the park lamp relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  5. With a scan tool command the park lamp relay ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the park lamp relay and the coil side feed circuit of the park lamp relay.
  2. With a scan tool command the park lamp relay ON.

Probe the switch side feed circuit of the park lamp relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the switch side load circuit of the park lamp relay and the switch side feed circuit of the park lamp relay.

Test the coil side feed circuit of the park lamp relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
