Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the Steering Wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the Knee Bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  4. Object Number: 522463  Size: SH
  5. Remove the nuts (1) securing the steering column to instrument panel lower.
  6. Lower the steering column.

  7. Object Number: 588300  Size: SH
  8. Unsnap the steering column closeout shroud (1).
  9. Remove the steering column closeout shroud (1).
  10. Remove the TORX® head screws (4) from the lower shroud cover.
  11. Remove the lower shroud.

  12. Object Number: 588304  Size: SH
  13. Remove the TORX® head screw (2) from the upper column shroud.
  14. Remove upper shroud (1).

  15. Object Number: 588300  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect actuator switch connector from the steering column harness.
  17. Remove the tilt/telescope actuator switch  (3) from the lower column shroud.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 588300  Size: SH
  1. Install the tilt/telescope actuator switch  (3) to the lower column shroud.
  2. Connect the actuator switch connector to the steering column harness.

  3. Object Number: 588304  Size: SH
  4. Install upper shroud (1).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the TORX® screw (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the TORX® screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  8. Ensure that the tabs on the lower shroud  (1) engages with the tabs on the upper shroud  (2) then snap them together.
  9. Install the TORX® screws.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the TORX® screws to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  11. Install the steering column closeout shroud (1) .

  12. Object Number: 522463  Size: SH
  13. Raise the steering column into position.
  14. Install the nuts  (1) securing the steering wheel column to the lower instrument panel.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  16. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  17. Install the Steering Wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  18. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
