Did you review the night vision operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Position the vehicle approximately 8 meters (25 feet) from the nearest objects in front of the vehicle.
  2. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Turn on the headlamps.
  5. Cover the lower windshield with a mat.
  6. Set the DIM CONTROL slider switch on the head-up display (HUD) control to maximum intensity.
  7. Observe the HUD. The night vision logo warm-up image should appear.
  8. Wait 45 seconds.
  9. Observe the HUD. The night vision camera thermal video image should appear.

Does the system operate normally?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.
  3. Turn on the headlamps.
  4. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  5. Using the scan tool, select instrument panel integration module (IPM).
  6. From the Non-HVAC Data menu, select HUD Dimming.

Does the scan tool indicate that the HUD Dimming output is ON?

  1. Turn off the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the head-up display (HUD) connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Test the ignition positive voltage circuit of the HUD for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn off the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the head-up display (HUD) control connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Test the ignition positive voltage circuit of the HUD control for an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the HUD for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect the head-up display (HUD) connector.
  3. Make sure the ambient light sensor is covered.
  4. Turn the TWILIGHT control to OFF to turn off the twilight sentinel.
  5. Turn ON the ignition.
  6. Measure the voltage from the HUD active signal circuit at the HUD connector to ground while turning the headlamps on and off.

Is the measured voltage 10-15 volts with the headlamps off and less than 1.5 volts with the headlamps on?

Test the HUD active signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the HUD active signal circuit for a short to battery positive voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the head-up display (HUD) connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Turn on the headlamps.
  5. Make sure the ambient light sensor is covered.
  6. Set the DIM CONTROL slider switch on the HUD control to maximum.
  7. Test the night vision display off signal circuit at the head-up display (HUD) connector for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the HUD control for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the HUD connector.
  3. Measure the resistance between the night vision display intensity signal circuit at the head-up display module connector and ground.
  4. Turn the DIM CONTROL slider switch on the HUD control from maximum to minimum and back to maximum.

Does the measured resistance vary between 2 and 12 kohms?
