The heated seats system consists of 4 heated seats; 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. Each heated seat consists of the following components:

    • A heated seat module
    • A heated seat switch
    • A heated seat back
    • A heated seat cushion

The left front door module (LFDM), right front door module (RFDM), left rear door module (LRDM), and right rear door module (RRDM) are also involved in the operation of the heated seats. The system will only be functional with the ignition switch in the ON position.

Heated Seat Switch

With the heated seat off, pressing the heated seat switch once will turn on the heated seat at the HIGH level. Pressing the heated seat switch a second time will set the level to MED, and a third time will set the level to LOW. A fourth press will turn off the heated seat. The heated seat will also turn off if the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.

Temperature Regulation

The heated seat system is designed to warm the seat cushion and seat back to approximately 37°C (98.6°F) when in the low position, 39.5°C (103°F) when in the MED position, and 42°C (107.6°F) when in the high position. A temperature sensor (thermistor) is installed in the seat cushion in order to regulate the temperature of the seats. The sensor is a variable resistor (its resistance changes as the temperature of the seat cushion changes). The heated seat module monitors the sensor resistance at the sensor input.

When the heated seat switch is in the low position and the heating element temperature reaches 37°C (98.6°F), the module opens its contacts to remove battery positive voltage (B+) from the heating elements.

When the heated seat switch is in the medium position and the heating element temperature reaches 39.5°C (103°F), the heated seat module will cycle on and off in order to maintain the desired temperature.

If the heated seat switch is in the high position, battery positive voltage (B+) is removed when the heating elements temperature reaches 42°C (107.6°F). The heated seat module will cycle on and off in order to maintain the desired temperature. The system will remain active until the system or the ignition switch is turned off.

Operating Mode

There are 2 different modes available for heated seat operation: the seat cushion and back heat, or seat back only heat. When a temperature input request is received, the heated seat module shall activate both the seat cushion and seat back heating elements. When the heated seat mode switch is pressed once, the heated seat module shall deactivate the seat cushion heating element and leave the back heating element on. Push the heated seat mode switch a second time and the heated seat module will reactivate the seat cushion heating element.
