Rear Brake Rotor Replacement Without J55

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 42450-A Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit

  1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .
  3. Support the caliper assembly away from the rotor.
  4. Remove the brake caliper bracket assembly from the knuckle. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  5. Remove the brake rotor.

Installation Procedure

Important: Whenever the rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange, clean any rust or contaminants from the wheel bearing flange and the brake rotor mating surfaces. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral runout of the rotor, and brake pulsation.

  1. Use the J 42450-A in order to clean the mating surfaces on the wheel bearing flange and the rotor.
  2. Install the rotor over the wheel studs onto the wheel bearing flange.
  3. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  4. Install the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

Rear Brake Rotor Replacement J55

Removal Procedure

You can remove the brake rotor without separating the caliper from the mounting bracket.

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Remove 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
  6. Hang the caliper and mounting bracket assembly from the suspension using mechanic's wire.

  7. Object Number: 370049  Size: SH
  8. Remove the rotor. Slowly turn the rotor while pulling the rotor away from the hub and bearing assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 370049  Size: SH
  1. Clean all rust and contaminants from the both sides of the rotor and the hub flange.
  2. Install the rotor. Slowly turn the rotor while pushing the rotor towards the hub and bearing assembly.
  3. Install the caliper and the mounting bracket as an assembly. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the safety stands.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
