NEW PRODUCT INFORMATION MINI-FUSES ON 1992 MODELS

SUBJECT: NEW PRODUCT INFORMATION - MINI-FUSES ON 1992 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES

1992 Eldorados and Sevilles feature a new circuit protection device, the mini-fuse, which will be used in all applications where auto fuses were used in the past.

The mini-fuse is very similar to the auto fuse with the most apparent difference being its smaller physical size. Refer to Figure 1. Mini-fuses will be used in the engine compartment fuse block, located ahead of the left front wheel house, and the trunk compartment fuse block, rearward of the left rear wheel house. Mini-fuses are serviced by unplugging them from the fuse block in the same manner as auto and maxi fuses.

The 1992 Eldorado and Seville each use a minimum of 42 mini-fuses. A summary of the circuits protected by each mini-fuse may be found in the appropriate Owner's Manual.

Due to the large number of mini-fuses used on these cars and the fact that they will replace auto fuses on future cars, it is recommended that mini-fuses be ordered and kept in stock. The table below lists the mini-fuse ratings, colors, and part numbers:

Rating Color P/N -------- ------ --------- 10 amps Red 12092079 20 amps Yellow 12092077 30 amps Green 12092075

The engine and trunk compartment fuse blocks are also different from previous fuse blocks. Refer to Figure 2. Each fuse block is made up of four rows of terminals labeled A, B, C, and D and 14 columns of terminals labeled 1 through 14. Since each fuse has two terminals, the first fuse in row A is plugged into terminals 1 and 2. The fuse designations are made up of the row letter (in this case the letter "A") and the odd terminal number (in this case "1"). This means the first fuse in row A will be labeled A1, the next A3, the next A5 and so on. Even though there will only be seven fuses in each row, the fuse designations will range from A1 to D13 in each fuse block; and the fourth fuse in row A will be labeled A7, not A4.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
