DOOR WINDOW SWITCH REMOVAL MAY DAMAGE TRIM PLATE

SUBJECT: DOOR WINDOW SWITCH TRIM REMOVAL MAY DAMAGE TRIM PLATE (NEW SERVICE PROCEDURE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "E" AND "K" MODELS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early 1992 Eldorados and Sevilles have door window switch trim plates which may be difficult to remove without damaging the trim plate. If the trim plate is pried up without engaging the metal clip (see Figure 1), the clip is likely to bend out and break off from the trim plate. Use the following guidelines to lessen the chance of trim plate damage:

o Use a windshield stick (e.g., Stanlock No. 762053 or equivalent) or other 1/2" wide flat blade to pry up on the rear edge trim plate. Do not use a screwdriver.

o Insert the blade 3/4" into the door trim to engage the metal clip.

o Pry up gently on the trim plate and clip to assure clip engagement and avoid damaging the clip, trim plate, or door trim.

If the clip or trim plate is damaged upon removal, bend the clip back to its original shape and glue it to the trim plate with Loctite #401 epoxy or equivalent. Be sure the clip is fully inserted into the trim plate (fully up) to assure secure trim plate fit when it is reinstalled. A clip that is bent, not fully seated into the trim plate, or not glued to the trim plate after breaking off, will result in a loose trim plate.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
