FRT. BUMPER FASCIA CENTER MLDG LOOSE (REASSEMBLE FASCIA)

SUBJECT: FRONT BUMPER FASCIA CENTRE MOULDING LOOSE (REASSEMBLE FASCIA)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "E" MODEL

Some 1992 Eldorados built prior to September, 1991 may experience a condition where the bumper fascia centre bright moulding is loose to the fascia. This condition is caused by poor snap tab design resulting in improper engagement of the moulding snap tabs into the fascia. If the front centre moulding is loose, it may lift and break when the vehicle is being driven. To repair this condition perform the following procedure:

Remove:

------ 1. Bumper assembly and place on a protected surface. If necessary, refer to Section 10-4 in the 1992 Service Information Manual.

2. Lower push-in fasteners retaining the bumper fascia to the beam and disengage the upper part of the fascia from the beam. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Beam from fascia.

4. Place the fascia top side down and locate the moulding snap tabs. Refer to Figure 2.

NOTE: All up/down references to follow are relative to the technician with the fascia in this position.

5. Use available lmm thick spacers, or fabricate three spacers from lmm thick metal or stiff plastic shim stock. The spacers should be 12 x 15mm in size. (Larger shims may interfere with the bumper beam upon reassembly.)

6. Start at position 3 according to Figure 2. Holding the moulding tight against the fascia, insert one of the spacers between the fascia and the locking tab as shown in Figure 2, Section A-A. Press the spacer down until it contacts the fascia surface.

7. Add a spacer at position 5 as described above. Add the two remaining spacers at positions 2 and 6.

8. Bond the four spacers in place with a small amount of Loctite surface insensitive adhesive, such as 401 or equivalent. Apply the adhesive as shown in Figure 2, Section A-A.

Assemble:

-------- 1. Fascia to beam.

2. Bumper assembly to vehicle.

For vehicles being repaired under warranty use Labour time at 1.0 hour.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
