POOR WEATHERSTRIP APPEARANCE REMOVE & REP. RAIL RETAINER

SUBJECT: POOR WEATHER-STRIP APPEARANCE - VERTICAL SECTION (REMOVE AND REINSTALL ROOF RAIL RETAINER)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 CADILLAC ELDORADO

Some 1992 Eldorados may exhibit a pucker or bunching condition which may cause a poor appearance at the upper rear vertical section of the door window weather-strip.

This condition is caused by the roof rail retainer being installed low at the upper rear corner roof to quarter window opening.

To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Remove the weather-strip from the roof rail retainer starting at the upper rear corner six inches forward along the horizontal section of the retainer and down the vertical section of the retainer for the full length of the B-pillar.

2. Remove the securing screws along the B-pillar. Pull the B-pillar retainer forward from the B-pillar to access the screw holes. Refer to Section 10-9 of the Service Information Manual.

3. Seal the screw holes with sealant (3M 08011 black weather-strip adhesive or equivalent).

4. Relocate the roof rail retainer full up and rearward to ensure a 90 degree corner. Secure the B-pillar retainer with screws in the new location (fasteners must be fully seated and not stripped out).

5. Apply 3M 08011 weather-strip adhesive, or equivalent, outboard of securing screws in roof rail retainer weather-strip channel (ensure complete application along 6" horizontal and full vertical lengths). Reinstall the weather-strip starting at the upper rear corner ensuring the weather-strip is fully seated. Reinstall six inch horizontal section of weather-strip and continue the installation down the vertical section of the B-pillar.

NOTE: During the reinstallation of weather-strip, care should be taken to ensure no bunching and/or puckering in order to attain a satisfactory appearance. Refer to Section 10-6 of the Service Information Manual.

6. Run door glass to the full up position, close door, and ensure adequate sealing compression of door glass edge to weather-strip and acceptable appearance.

For vehicles repaired under warranty use: 0.4 hours for each side.
