LOOSE LUMBER TYPE NOISE IN FRONT SUSPENSION

SUBJECT: LOOSE LUMBER TYPE NOISE IN FRONT SUSPENSION (REPLACE UPPER STRUT MOUNTS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 "E/K" MODELS

Some 1992 Eldorados and Sevilles may experience a noise in the front end when going over rough pavement or small bumps at slow speeds (15-20 mph). The noise is generally reported as a hollow rumble or loose lumber noise in the right front of the vehicle.

To repair this condition replace both upper strut mounts with 1993 strut mount, P/N 22145409, per the procedures in Service Information Manual, Section 3C. Before removing the spring and strut assembly from the vehicle, scribe the steering knuckle which will eliminate the need for a camber adjustment after the procedure is performed.

For vehicles repaired under warranty use:

Labour Operation E3927 at 1.5 hours.

For alignment times refer to operation E2020 and add the applicable times.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
