The IPC illuminates the ANTI-LOCK (ABS) indicator when the following occurs:
• | The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction with the antilock brake system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the EBCM and the discrete back-up ABS indicator signal is open. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
When the ABS indicator is commanded on, the IPC also illuminates the TRACTION CONTROL indicator and illuminates the SERV STABILITY SYS indicator in the DIC.
The IPC illuminates the AIR BAG indicator when the following occurs:
• | The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) detects a malfunction with the supplemental inflatable restraint system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the SDM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the SDM. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The IPC flashes the air bag indicator 7 times. |
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE AIR BAG -- 83 indicator in the DIC when the following occurs:
• | The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) detects a malfunction with the supplemental inflatable restraint system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the SDM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the SDM. |
The IPC illuminates the BRAKE indicator and activates an audible warning when the following occurs:
• | The IPC detects that the park is applied (signal circuit is low). |
• | The IPC detects a low brake fluid condition (signal circuit is low). |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The IPC illuminates the CHECK BRAKE FLUID - 37 indicator in the DIC and sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning when the IPC detects that the brake fluid level is below the normal operating range.
The IPC illuminates the charge indicator when the following occurs:
• | The PCM detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC determines that the system voltage is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The IPC illuminates the BATTERY NOT CHARGING - 7 indicator in the DIC when the PCM detects a malfunction with the generator output. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the BATTERY VOLTAGE HIGH - 8 indicator in the DIC when the IPC determines that the system voltage is greater than 16 volts.
The IPC illuminates the BATTERY VOLTAGE LOW - 6 indicator in the DIC when the IPC determines that the system voltage is less than 11 volts.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE CHARGING SYSTEM - 102 indicator in the DIC when the PCM detects a malfunction with the generator output. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the CRUISE ENGAGED 43 - Indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the cruise control is requested. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the DOOR AJAR - 141 Indicator in the DIC when the IPC detects the passenger door is open and the transmission is out of park. If the vehicle speed is greater than 4.8 km/h (3 mph), the IPC sends a class 2 message to activate an audible warning.
The IPC illuminates the DRIVER DOOR AJAR -140 indicator in the DIC when the IPC detects the driver's door is open and the transmission is out of park. If the vehicle speed is greater than 8 km/h (5 mph), the IPC sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE ELECTRICAL SYS - 106 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the IPC detects certain malfunctions in the vehicle electrical system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON - 3 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects certain malfunctions that are unrelated to the emission system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the engine coolant indicator and activates an audible warning when the following occurs:
• | The IPC determines that the coolant temperature is greater than 128°C (262°F). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the coolant temperature. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The IPC turns OFF the engine coolant indicator when the engine coolant falls below 125°C (257°F).
The IPC illuminates the CHECK COOLANT LEVEL - 2 indicator in the DIC when the IPC detects that the coolant level is low/signal circuit is high.
The IPC illuminates the ENGINE COOLANT HOT/IDLE ENGINE - 44 indicator in the DIC and activates an audible warning when the IPC determines that the coolant temperature is greater than 128°C (262°F). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the coolant temperature.
The IPC turns OFF the indicator when the engine coolant falls below 125°C (257°F).
The IPC illuminates the ENGINE HOT - AC OFF - 16 indicator in the DIC when the heater and A/C programmer detects that the engine temperature is above the normal operating range and has turned off the air conditioning in order to allow the engine to cool down. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the heater and A/C programmer requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the ENGINE OVERHEATED/STOP ENGINE - 42 indicator in the DIC and activates an audible warning when the power train control module (PCM) detects that the engine temperature is above the normal operating range. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the ENGINE MISFIRE - - EASE OFF GAS PEDAL - 114 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects an engine misfire. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the CHANGE ENGINE OIL - 82 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) has determined that the engine oil life index is zero. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the CHECK OIL LEVEL - 36 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the engine oil level is low. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the engine oil pressure indicator and activates an audible warning when the following occurs:
• | The powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the engine oil pressure is outside the normal operating range. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The IPC illuminates the OIL PRESSURE LOW/STOP ENGINE - 35 indicator in the DIC and activates an audible warning when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the engine oil pressure is outside the normal operating range. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TOP SPEED FUEL CUT-OFF - 111 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) enables the fuel-cut off function in order to restrict vehicle speed. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the fasten safety belt indicator when the following occurs:
• | The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) detects that the driver's seat belt is unbuckled when the ignition is turned ON. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the SDM requesting illumination. The IPC illuminates the indicator for 72 seconds or until the driver's safety belt is buckled. The IPC also sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning. |
• | The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) detects that the driver's safety belt is unbuckled after the ignition has been turned ON. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the SDM requesting illumination. The IPC illuminates the indicator for 72 seconds or until the driver's safety belt is buckled. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 4 seconds. |
The IPC illuminates the CHECK FUEL GAGE - 39 indicator in the DIC and activates an audible warning when the IPC is in the gauges OFF mode and the fuel level is less than 13.2 liters (3.5 gallons). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the fuel level.
The IPC illuminates the CHECK GAS CAP - 61 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects a malfunction in the evaporative emissions system or the gas cap is not seated properly. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the FUEL LEVEL LOW - 11 indicator in the DIC and activates an audible warning when the fuel level is less than 11.4 liters (3 gallons). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the fuel level.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE FUEL SYSTEM - 101 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects certain malfunctions in the fuel system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the LOW REFRIG AC OFF - 12 Indicator in the DIC when the heater and A/C programmer detects the A/C system refrigerant is out side of the normal operating range. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the heater and A/C programmer requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE AC SYSTEM - 14 indicator in the DIC when the heater and A/C programmer has detected a malfunction in the air conditioning system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the heater and A/C programmer requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the ICE POSSIBLE - 13 indicator in the DIC when the outside air temperature drops below 2.2°C (36°F).
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE IDLE CONTROL - 107 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects certain malfunctions in the idle control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the km/h indicator when IPC detects that the speedometer has been requested to display metric units. The IPC receives a discrete input from the LH instrument cluster switch requesting metric units be displayed.
The IPC illuminates the MPH indicator when IPC detects that the speedometer has been requested to display English units. The IPC receives a discrete input from the LH instrument cluster switch requesting English units be displayed.
The IPC illuminates the HEADLAMPS SUGGESTED -- 23 indicator in the DIC when the IPC detects that the ambient light conditions are low enough that headlamps should be used during driving.
The IPC illuminates the high beam indicator when the IPC detects that the high beams are requested.
The IPC illuminates the right or left turn signal indicator when the IPC detects a turn signal or a hazard request. If the IPC determines that the turn signal is active for more than 1.6 km (1 mile), the IPC sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning.
The IPC illuminates the TURN SIGNAL ON -- 20 indicator in the DIC and sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning when the IPC determines that the turn signal is active for more than 1.6 km (1 mile).
The PCM illuminates the MIL (service engine soon or check engine) when the following occurs:
• | The PCM detects a malfunction in the emissions system. |
• | The PCM performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
• | The ignition is on, with the engine off. |
The IPC illuminates the ENGINE POWER REDUCED - 41 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects a malfunction in the throttle actuator control (TAC) system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the SERV STABILITY SYS -- 54 indicator in the DIC when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction with the stability system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the STABILITY ENGAGED -- 55 indicator in the DIC when electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a stability system event. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the MONITORED SYSTEMS OK - 1 Indicator in the DIC when the DIC is in the recall mode and no driver warning messages are active.
The IPC illuminates the OPTIONS NOT SET - 99 Indicator when the IPC detects that no options are set or a malfunction has been detected in the IPCs memory.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE STEERING SYS - 127 indicator in the DIC when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) has detected a malfunction in the variable effort steering (VES) system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the indicator in the DIC when the electronic suspension control module has detected a malfunction in the road sensing suspension system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the electronic suspension control module requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the VEHICLE SPEED LIMITED TO XXX - 113 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a malfunction in the road sensing suspension system that requires the vehicle speed to be limited. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the PROGRAM PASS KEY - 31 indicator in the DIC when the IPC detects the ignition key pellet information has not been programed.
The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) system utilizes the IPC to control the VTD functions. The IPC illuminates the SECURITY indicator when it detects a malfunction with the VTD system. The content theft deterrent (CTD) system utilizes the body control module (PZM) to control the VTD functions. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PZM requesting illumination.
• | The VTD system requests the IPC to illuminate the indicator only when the ignition switch is ON. The VTD system uses the indicator as a malfunction indicator. |
• | The CTD system requests the IPC to illuminate the indicator only when the ignition switch is OFF. The CTD system uses the indicator in order to identify system status. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The IPC illuminates the STARTING DISABLED/REMOVE KEY -- 33 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) has not received a fuel enable signal from the IPC prior to an attempted vehicle start. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. After the ignition is cycled to OFF the IPC illuminates WAIT 3 MINUTES, WAIT 2 MINUETS, WAIT 1 MINUTE and than START CAR, REMOVE KEY in the DIC.
The IPC illuminates the THEFT SYSTEM PROBLEM CAR MAY NOT RESTART - 34 indicator in the DIC when the IPC detects a theft system malfunction well the engine is running. The vehicle will continue to run but may not restart if the malfunction is still present when engine is turned OFF.
The IPC illuminates the TRACTION CONTROL indicator when the following occurs:
• | The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a malfunction in the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the EBCM. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. |
The IPC illuminates the TRACTION ENGAGED -- 91 indicator in the DIC when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects a traction control event. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TRACTION OFF -- 89 indicator in the DIC when the driver disables the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TRACTION READY - 90 indicator in the DIC when the driver enables the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TRACTION SUSPENDED - 56 indicator in the DIC when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) disables the traction control system. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the EBCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT - 46 Indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) determines the transmission is in park and the brake is not applied. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the CHANGE TRANS FLUID - 47 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) has determined that the transmission oil life index is zero. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE TRANSMISSION - 100 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects certain malfunctions in the transmission. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TRANS FLUID RESET - 48 indicator in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) has determined that the transmission oil life has been reset to 100 percent. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TRANS HOT IDLE ENGINE - 11 indicator in the DIC and sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the transmission temperature is above the normal operating range. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the TRUNK OPEN - 24 indicator in the DIC when the body control module (PZM) detects that the rear compartment is open and the ignition is ON. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PZM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the VEHICLE OVERSPEED - 52 indicator in the DIC and sends a class 2 message in order to activate an audible warning when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the vehicle speed is greater than 120 km/h (74.5 MPH). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
