Removal Procedure
- Place the transmission range control in PARK (P).
- Remove the left closeout insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in
Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Loosen the left front carpet to allow access to the park lock
cable routing
- Remove the steering column reinforcement plate. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel
and Column Tilt.
Important: Do not attempt to perform this step with the ignition key in any other
position except RUN.
- Remove the four steering column bolts and lower the steering column.
Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column Tilt.
- Turn the ignition key to RUN position.
- Slip a flat head screwdriver
blade into the slot provided in the ignition switch inhibitor. Depress the
Cable latch (14) and pull the park lock cable from the inhibitor.
- Remove the radio and console trim plates. Refer to
Console Front Trim Plate Replacement
in Instrument
Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the park lock cable
at the transmission range control assembly (4).
- Remove the park lock cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Using a flat head screwdriver,
pry the lock button of the park lock cable into the UNLOCKED position.
- Install the park lock cable at the transmission range control
assembly. DO NOT attach the cable end to the pin on the control lever.
Important: Do not attempt to perform this step with the ignition key in any other
position except RUN.
- With the transmission range control assembly in PARK (P) and the ignition
key in RUN position, snap the park lock cable into the inhibitor housing.
- Turn the ignition key to LOCK position.
- Snap the cable end onto
the pin of the transmission range control lever (4).
- Push the park lock cable towards the range control lever assembly
in order to remove the slack.
- Push the lock button on the park lock cable down into the LOCKED
position.
- Inspect the park lock cable as follows:
• | With the range control lever in PARK (P) and the ignition key
in the LOCK position, make sure that the range control lever cannot move to
another position. The ignition key should be removable from the lock cylinder. |
• | Turn the ignition key to RUN position and move the range control
lever to NEUTRAL (N). Make sure that the ignition key cannot be turned to
the LOCK position. |
• | If the above checks are OK, proceed to Step 9. If the above
checks are NOT OK, readjust the park lock cable. |
- Raise the steering column and install the four bolts. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel
and Column-Tilt.
- Install the steering column reinforcement plate. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
in Steering Wheel
and Column-Tilt.
- Install the console and the radio trim plates. Refer to
Console Front Trim Plate Replacement
in Instrument
Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the left closeout insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side
in
Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Secure the left front carpet.
