Removal Procedure

    Notice: Some vehicles equipped with sunroofs utilize drain tubes, routed through the upper body pillars, to prevent water from entering the vehicle. Use care not to damage the drain tubes, otherwise, damage to the interior of the vehicle may occur.

    Important: The roof is only available as a complete assembly including an outer panel (1) and an inner reinforcement (2). In addition, there are approximately 10 welds in each corner (3) on the inside of the vehicle that must be drilled out to remove the roof assembly.

    The headliner, windshield and backglass must be removed prior to removal of the roof assembly. Protect the interior of vehicle. It is advisable to remove the seats due to the required overhead welding.

  1. Remove all related panels and components to gain proper access to the welds attaching the roof assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Remove the following as necessary:
  3. • Sealers
    • Sound deadeners
    • Anti-corrosion materials
  4. Locate, mark and drill out all factory welds holding the roof assembly in place.
  5. Cut the adhesive bond between the roof and quarter panel with an appropriate tool.
  6. Remove the roof assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Prepare mating surfaces.
  2. Check for proper fit of the roof assembly.
  3. Lift roof and apply a structural bonding epoxy (1) at the roof and quarter panel joint.
  4. Position the roof assembly.
  5. Check for proper fit and plug weld accordingly.
  6. Clean and prepare welded surfaces.
  7. Prime with two-part catalyzed primer.
  8. Important: Prior to refinishing, refer to GM 4901MD-99 Refinish Manual for recommended products. Do not combine paint systems. Refer to paint manufacturer's recommendations.

  9. Apply sealers and anti-corrosion materials as necessary.
