Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking
tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
- Open the hood.
- Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to
Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement
in Wipers/Washer Systems.
- Remove the air inlet grille. Refer to
Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement
in Body Front End.
Caution: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into
the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
- Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
• | Defroster outlets and A/C outlets |
- Remove the windshield reveal molding. Refer to
Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows
.
- Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to
Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement
.
- Remove the rain sensor. Refer to
Windshield Outside Moisture Sensor Replacement
in Wipers/Washer Systems.
- Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to
Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement
in Interior Trim.
Caution: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough
edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce
the chance of personal injury.
Important: The windshield reveal molding (1) is a one piece molding and fills the
cavities between the body and windshield (2).
- If the windshield reveal molding (1) is stretched or damaged it can
not be reused.
- Remove the windshield
reveal molding.
10.1. | Grasp the lower corner of the windshield reveal molding by hand
and slowly pull the reveal molding away from the windshield. |
10.2. | If the windshield reveal molding will not release, use a utility
knife in order to cut around the windshield in order to remove the windshield
reveal molding. |
10.3. | Apply a double layer of masking tape to the body around the entire
periphery of the stationary glass. |
- Be careful not to damage the lower windshield supports (1) to
the cowl panel, if equipped.
Important: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.
- This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
• | Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange. |
• | The only suitable lubrication is clear water. |
• | UseJ 24402-A
, J 39032
or equivalent in order
to cut the urethane bead to remove the window. |
- Remove the bottom of the
window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar
tool. Keep the cutting edge of the utility knife against the
glass. Do this from inside the vehicle.
- Remove the windshield from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
