SHOULDER BELT CONTACTS NECK INSTALL GUIDE EXTENDER KIT

SUBJECT: SHOULDER BELT CONTACTS DRIVER AND RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S NECK

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990-1991 BROUGHAMS

Drivers and right front-seat passengers of some 1990-1991 Broughams may comment that the seat belts contact or rub against the neck. This condition may be improved for some drivers by installing a shoulder belt guide loop extender kit, P/N 3635383. This kit includes two guide loop extenders and an instruction sheet. One guide loop extender should be installed on the driver's door and one on the right-front door as described in the following procedure:

1. Lower driver's door window.

2. Remove shoulder belt guide loop outboard cover by inserting a small screwdriver at the tab locations. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Remove guide loop mounting nut using an 18 mm socket, and remove guide loop from mounting plate. Refer to Figure 1.

4. Slide guide loop extender over guide loop as shown in Figure 2. Be sure guide loop stud is centered in the opening at the rear of the guide loop extender.

5. Reassemble guide loop to mounting plate. Tighten nut to 24-32 N.m (18-24 lbs. ft.).

NOTE: Do not trap the guide loop extender between the nut and guide loop. The nut must bottom out on the guide loop to obtain full thread engagement.

6. Snap outboard cover in place.

7. Route the belt through the extended guide assembly as shown in Figure 2.

8. Install guide loop extender on right-front door using the above procedure.

Parts are expected to be available on May 27, 1991. Until then, normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
