DIVS INVL 4 6 7
THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN REVISED TO INCLUDE 1992 BUICK "B" MODELS AND TO CORRECT LABOR OPERATION NUMBER.
SOME 1990-1991 D MODELS AND 1992 B MODELS EQUIPPED WITH A 5.7L (VIN CODE 7) ENGINE MAY EXPERIENCE A CLICKING OR RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE. THE NOISE MAY BE MORE APPARENT DURING BRAKING OR ON INCLINES WHEN THE FRONT OF THE CAR IS LOWER THAN THE REAR.
THIS NOISE MAY BE CAUSED BY THE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR CONTACTING A WELD SPOT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CHAIN COVER. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION:
1. REMOVE THE FRONT TIMING COVER.
2. SUPPORT THE OUTSIDE OF THE COVER AT THE SPOT WELD AND USE A HAMMER TO PEEN DOWN THE RAISED WELD AREA.
3. FILE THE REMAINING WELD BUILDUP FLUSH.
LABOR OPERATION NO.: T5228 LABOR HOURS: 1.3 HRS.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
