The ornamentation on 1987 Special Edition De Villes is plated with 24 karat gold. While the premium finish of this ornamentation is covered by a clear protective coating to preserve its jewel-like appearance, special care must be taken to optimize its life and appearance. The ornamentation should be cleaned periodically with warm water to remove any build-up of road salt, dirt or mud. After cleaning the ornamentation, it should be polished using the special polishing cloth shipped with each vehicle. This will rejuvenate the luster of the ornamentation.
To protect the lock cover emblem from wear whenever a key is inserted into the lock cylinder, a plastic key cover is also provided with each vehicle. This cover is designed to slide over the head of the body key to prevent metal-to-metal contact of the key head with the lock cylinder cover.
An Owner Instruction Card, polishing cloth and three key covers will be attached to the Gold Key Package. The card and polishing cloth should be presented to the owner during delivery and the key covers placed on the body keys.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
