LOOSE LACE AROUND FRONT DOOR OUTER FRAME MOLDING

MODELS AFFECTED: 1987 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS

Some 1987 De Villes and Fleetwoods may experience loose trim lace at the front door exterior frame molding. This condition may be caused by an excessive gap between the molding lace and the front door (compare Figures 1 and 2).

To repair this condition, use the following procedure:

1. Remove door trim panel as specified on page 5C-1 of the 1987 Body Service Manual.

2. Remove outside mirror as specified on page 5C-25 of the 1987 Body Service Manual.

3. Remove front door outer frame molding as specified on page 5C-9 of the 1987 Body Service Manual.

4. Using a razor blade or equivalent, remove the inside lip of the trim lace at the forward radius of the outer frame molding as shown in Figure 3.

5. Bond the lace to the molding with several drops of Loctite Quick Gel, SGG-A or equivalent.

6. Reinstall front door outer frame molding as specified on page 5C-9 of the 1987 Body Service Manual.

NOTE: Properly position molding to fit recess in door outer panel.

7. Reinstall outside mirror as specified on page 5C-25 of the 1987 Body Service Manual.

NOTE: Tighten the forward attaching nut first, then the two rearward nuts.

8. Reinstall door trim panel as specified on page 5C-1 of the 1987 Body Service Manual.

For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation T6231 at .9 hour for each side.
