Some 1987 DeVilles and Fleetwoods (VIN 235167 to 332456), Eldorados (VIN 600891 to 613212), and Sevilles (VIN 800761 to 814482) may experience a condition where the sunroof's air deflector gets caught between the roof panel and carrier when the sunroof is closing. This condition is caused by the air deflector traveling too far rearward in the roof opening.
To repair this condition, use the following procedure to install bumper stops, P/N 20349879, on the air deflector guides:
1. Open sunroof to the full-open position.
2. Locate point to be drilled on the air deflector guide, refer to Figure 1.
3. With a center punch and hammer, mark the air deflector guide.
4. Drill a 3/16" hole at mark.
5. Bend a wire as shown in Figure 2.
6. Use the wire to insert the rubber bumper into the air deflector guide and pull the bumper through the guide with long-nose liers refer to Fi ure 3.
7. Remove the wire from bumper.
8. Using the actuator rod adjustment screw, refer to Figure 4, adjust the air deflector actuator rod height so it is centered on the carrier recess.
9. Repeat procedure for opposite side.
For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation T5150 at .4 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
