Some 1987 De Villes and Fleetwoods with standard suspension built before VIN 285541 may experience a squawk or squeak from the floorboard or front suspension area on acceleration and/or during braking. This condition may be caused by movement between the #3 cradle mount spacer and the body. This condition can be repaired by installing a revised cradle mount and spacer asssembly in the #3 position. Both right and left side #3 mounts must be replaced.
To repair this condition, use the following service procedure:
1. Raise vehicle. 2. Install jackstands to support frame. 3. Remove three nuts from the #3 mount insulator (refer to Figure). 4. Remove bolt and insulator. 5. Remove spacer. 6. Install a new #3 mount using the following parts:
Part P/N Quantity
Spacer 14002111 2 Upper Insulator 14010478 2 Lower Insulator 25525871 2 Retainer 14002113 2 Bolt (or use existing) 25526904 2
7. Install spacer and upper cushion. Do not use lubricant to assemble mount. 8. Install lower cushion, retainer and bolt. Torque bolt to 100 N.m. (74 ft.lbs.). 9. Repeat procedure for other side. 10. Remove jackstands. 11. Lower vehicle.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
