Removal Procedure
    • J 39411 Flywheel Holder
    • J 38416-B Crankshaft Balancer Remover
    • J 39344 Crankshaft Balancer Installer

    Object Number: 333127 Size: SH
  1. Release the tension from the accessory drive belt.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  3. Raise the vehicle on the hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the two splash shields from the wheelhouse. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  6. Remove the brace between the engine oil pan and the transmission case.

    7. Object Number: 62338 Size: SH
  7. Install flywheel holder J 39411 .
  8. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt.
  9. Support the engine frame with a tall screw jack.
  10. Remove three engine frame bolts at the right of the cradle.

    11. Object Number: 333143 Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the RSS sensor from the right side lower control arm.
  12. Lower the engine frame to obtain clearance for the J 38416-B below the body rail.

    13. Object Number: 52031 Size: SH
  13. Install pilot J 39344 into end of crankshaft.
  14. Remove the crankshaft balancer using the J 38416-B .

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 53637 Size: SH
  1. Position the crankshaft balancer to the crankshaft.
  2. Install the crankshaft balancer using the J 39344 .
  3. Thoroughly clean the crankshaft balancer bolt threads.
  4. Apply engine oil to the threads.

    5. Object Number: 62339 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the crankshaft balancer bolt.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. The balancer bolt must be tightened an additional 120 degrees. Make a mark on the balancer bolt flange in line with the center line of one of the balancer legs.
  7. Raise the engine frame into position.
  8. Install three frame bolts.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  9. Reconnect the suspension position sensors to the lower control arms.
  10. Remove the J 39411 .

    11. Object Number: 333127 Size: SH
  11. Install the oil pan to transmission brace.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the four bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Install the wheel house splash shields. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  13. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
