For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Visually inspect all suspension components and wheels carefully for the following damage:
  2. • Visually inspect for cracks in component attachment areas
    • Visually inspect for corrosion
    • Visually inspect for large chips in casting surfaces
    • Visually inspect for large gouges in casting surfaces
  3. Visually inspect the suspension components for wear.
  4. Visually inspect the wheels for wear.
  5. Visually inspect suspension components for galvanic corrosion.
  6. Visually inspect fasteners for galvanic corrosion.
  7. Galvanic corrosion develops due to the use of the following dissimilar metals:

    • Forged aluminum
    • Cast aluminum
    • Steel
  8. Replace suspension components with new parts if any of the following are present:
  9. • Bent suspension components
    • Damaged suspension components
    • Worn suspension components

    Important: Do not heat, quench, straighten or weld aluminum suspension components.

  10. If bent, damaged and/or worn suspension components or bent, damaged and/or worn wheels are present, carefully inspect the ball joint stud attachment to the knuckle for looseness or damage. Refer to Ball Stud and Knuckle Inspection .
