Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller.
    • J 42578 Steering Wheel Puller Adapter.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraints.
  2. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (SIR). Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Replacement .
  3. Remove the nut on the steering column shaft.
  4. Using J 1859-A and J 42578 separate the steering wheel from steering shaft.
  5. Remove the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 794  Size: SH
  1. Feed the wiring through the steering wheel.
  2. Align the steering wheel with the mark on the steering shaft.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install nut for the steering wheel.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  6. Connect wiring to the SIR module.
  7. Install the SIR module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Replacement .
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraints.
