Was the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock System Check performed?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  3. Select rear integration module (RIM).
  4. Under the special functions menu, select brake to shift.
  5. Cycle the park relay on and off.

Is the gear shift lever able to shift when the park relay is off and unable to shift when the park relay is on?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. Place the gear shift lever in PARK position.
  3. Disconnect stoplamp/BTSI switch connector C1.
  4. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  5. Attempt to move the gear shift lever to NEUTRAL.

Does the gear shift lever shift to NEUTRAL?

  1. Check the stoplamp/BTSI switch connector C1 for proper terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the stoplamp/BTSI switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

Replace the shift interlock solenoid. Refer to Brake Transmission Shift Interlock Solenoid Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T80-E.

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check .

Is the system check complete?
