Was the Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column System Check performed?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the ignition switch ignition to ON.
  3. Select TTM on the scan tool.
  4. Select the data menu and monitor the tilt/telescope switch input on the scan tool.
  5. Press the tilt/telescope switch to COLUMN IN, then to COLUMN OUT.

Does the module receive each input as expected, as indicated on the scan tool?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect steering column tilt/telescoping module connector C4.
  3. Connect a DMM set to ohms scale across connector C4 terminals D and F.
  4. Press the tilt/telescope switch to COLUMN IN, then release the switch.

Does the DMM show less than 0.5 ohms with the switch pressed and OL with the switch released?

  1. Connect a DMM set to ohms scale across terminals C and F of the steering column tilt/telescoping module connector C4.
  2. Press the tilt/telescope switch to COLUMN OUT, then release the switch.

Does the DMM show less than 0.5 ohms with the switch pressed and OL with the switch released?

Replace the tilt/telescope switch.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the steering column tiilt/telescoping module conector C3.
  3. Connect a fused jumper from connector C3 terminal C to ground, and momentarily connect a fused jumper from connector C3 terminal B to battery positive voltage (B+).
  4. Repeat the previous step with the connector C3 terminals B and C reversed.

Does the telescope motor move the column in for one test and out for the other test?

Replace the telescope actuator . Refer to Telescope Actuator Assembly Replacement - On Vehicle .

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 9

  1. Check the steering column tilt/telescoping module (TTM) connector C3 for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the TTM. Refer to Tilt/Telescoping Module Replacement .
  3. After replacement, reset the soft stops. Refer to Steering Column Control Module Programming .

Is the replacement complete?

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column System Check .

Is the system check complete?
