Was the Radio/Audio System Check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Sit in the vehicle with the seat belt unfastened.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Does a chime sound?

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  2. Turn the radio on.
  3. Tune the radio up and down.

Does the station display increment up and down?

Attempt to play a tape in the cassette player, or a CD in the in-dash compact disk (CD) changer.

Does the tape or CD play?

Go to Step 10

  1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the radio connector and the radio amplifier connector C1.
  3. Inspect connectors for poor terminal contact and verify wiring.

Are the wiring and connectors OK?

Repair wiring or connectors as required.

Is the circuit repair complete?

Is the vehicle equipped with a remote compact disk (CD) changer?

  1. Reconnect the radio connector and the radio amplifier connector C1.
  2. Insert a known good CD in the CD changer and attempt to play the CD.

Does the CD play?

Replace the radio amplifier. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Replace the radio.

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Radio/Audio System Check .

Is the system check complete?
