Sunroof Wind Noise/Buffeting (Replace Actuator and Control Module)

Subject:Sunroof Wind Noise/Buffeting (Replace Actuator and Control Module)

Models:1998-99 Cadillac Seville

Condition

Some customers may comment that wind noise/buffeting can be heard, with the sunroof in the full open position, when traveling at low speeds 40 - 64 km/h (25 - 40 mph).

Cause

This condition may be due to the size of the sunroof opening in relation to the exterior shape of the vehicle.

Correction

A new feature, the express open/comfort stop position, has been added. This feature stops the sunroof during express open at a position approximately 100 mm (4 in) before the full open position. This allows air to flow over the top of the sunroof glass rather than into the vehicle, thus eliminating any wind buffeting.

Perform a Power Sunroof System Check in order to determine the cause. If the cause is related to the condition of wind noise/buffeting when traveling at low speeds of 40 - 64 km/h (25 - 40 mph), both the sunroof actuator assembly and the (express) sunroof control module assembly must be replaced.

Refer to the Roof sub-section of Body & Accessories in the Service Manual for replacement procedures.

Parts Information

Effective April 31, 1999 the following sunroof assembly parts were released for service:

Important:

   • The new parts contain a modified vent-to-seal feature which adds a more uniform appearance to the roof line. When the front of the sunroof glass makes contact with the roof, the rear of the glass will rise above the roof approximately 5 mm - 10 mm (0.2 in - 0.4 in) before securely seating back to the roof.
   • Both the actuator and the control module must be replaced.
