If the console trim plate is not properly removed, damage may occur in the following areas:
• | Stress cracks (1) at the left and right hand front corners next to the storage/ashtray compartment and at the left and right hand rear corners next to the chrome trim. |
• | Chips in the lacquered surface along the edge of the trim plate. |
These conditions may be caused by the following:
• | Excessive force used when lifting the console trim plate up and out. |
• | Using a sharp tool when prying between the trim plate and the top portion of the vinyl trim of the console assembly. |
Important: DO NOT USE THE CONVENIENCE DOOR OPENING AS A LEVERAGE POINT.
Notice: To prevent possible component damage, DO NOT use tools to remove the console trim plate.
3.1. | Insert your fingers (if necessary, use a flat plastic tool) between the trim plate and the PRNDL at the RH rear corner of the chrome trim (2). |
3.2. | Gently lift up the trim plate in order to disengage the RH rear corner retainer (3). |
3.3. | Use the same method at the LH rear corner and the two front corners of the chrome trim in order to disengage the remaining retainers. |
