Models:1998--2001 Cadillac Seville



This bulletin is being revised to add the 2000 and 2001 model years and additional graphic information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 83-83-21 (Section 8 -- Body & Accessories).


If the console trim plate is not properly removed, damage may occur in the following areas:


Object Number: 750940  Size: SH
    • Stress cracks (1) at the left and right hand front corners next to the storage/ashtray compartment and at the left and right hand rear corners next to the chrome trim.
    • Chips in the lacquered surface along the edge of the trim plate.

These conditions may be caused by the following:

    • Excessive force used when lifting the console trim plate up and out.
    • Using a sharp tool when prying between the trim plate and the top portion of the vinyl trim of the console assembly.

Removal Procedure

Important: DO NOT USE THE CONVENIENCE DOOR OPENING AS A LEVERAGE POINT.

  1. Block the wheels on the vehicle.
  2. Put the shifter lever into neutral (N).
  3. Notice: To prevent possible component damage, DO NOT use tools to remove the console trim plate.

  4. Remove the console trim plate.

  5. Object Number: 750941  Size: MF
    3.1. Insert your fingers (if necessary, use a flat plastic tool) between the trim plate and the PRNDL at the RH rear corner of the chrome trim (2).
    3.2. Gently lift up the trim plate in order to disengage the RH rear corner retainer (3).
    3.3. Use the same method at the LH rear corner and the two front corners of the chrome trim in order to disengage the remaining retainers.
  6. Lift the console trim plate assembly upwards from the rear edge and pull the assembly rearward.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors as necessary.
