Battery Cable Replacement Positive Cable

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  3. Object Number: 154778  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the positive battery cable (1) from the battery.

  5. Object Number: 471716  Size: SH
  6. Remove the nut (1) securing the positive battery cable to the rear fuse block.
  7. Remove the interior trim moldings. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement and Rear Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim to expose the positive battery cable.

  8. Object Number: 519639  Size: SH
  9. Remove the battery cable retainers (2) from the rocker panel area.

  10. Object Number: 574502  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the underhood fuse block (2).

  12. Object Number: 519642  Size: SH
  13. Unseat the battery cable grommet (2) from the cowl panel (3).
  14. Carefully remove the battery cable (1) from the vehicle by pulling the cable through the cowl panel (3) and out of the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 519642  Size: SH
  1. Slide the battery cable (1) through the opening in the cowl panel (3) and seat the cable grommet (2) by pulling the cable forward into the engine compartment.

  2. Object Number: 574502  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the positive battery cable to the underhood fuse block (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut (1) to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Route the battery cable (1) along the rocker panel and install the cable retainers (2).
  6. Install the interior trim moldings. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement and Rear Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.

  7. Object Number: 471716  Size: SH
  8. Connect the positive battery cable to the rear fuse block.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut (1) to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  10. Connect the positive battery cable (1) to the battery.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  12. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  13. Install the rear seat cushion Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.

Battery Cable Replacement Negative Cable

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  3. Object Number: 154782  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the body harness from the negative battery cable.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the floor pan.
  6. Remove the negative battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 154782  Size: SH

    Important: When installing the negative battery cable, be sure that the cable eyelet is installed with the flat side down. Keep the crimped side facing upward.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Connect the body end of the negative battery cable to the floor pan.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  3. Connect the body harness connector to the body harness.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement .
  5. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
