AUTO

In this setting everything is controlled automatically based on the various A/C system inputs. In this setting, the system has the capability of any fan blower speed, any air inlet position, and any air outlet position to attain and maintain the selected temperature. Depending on the heating or cooling requirements, most of the air will enter the passenger compartment from one of the following four positions:

    • The floor heater outlet.
    • The A/C outlets.
    • The A/C and heater outlets.
    • The defrost and heater outlets.

OFF

With this setting selected, the blower motor or A/C compressor will not operate. The system will however still try to reach the temperature range selected, for example, if 21°C (70°F) is selected and it is a cold day, the car may eventually reach the 21°C (70°F) temperature range but over an extended period of time because the blower fan is not operating. If it is a hot day, it can only cool the car to near outside air temperature since in this position the blower motor and A/C compressor will not run. The OFF selection forces the air inlet valve open to outside air. The air will be discharged out the heater outlet.

Pressing the OFF button while the system is operating will cause the system to turn OFF. Pressing the button again will cause the system to return to the previous settings. The manual recirc setting is the only setting that the system will not return to after being turned OFF.

Mode

The mode button is used to manualy select the air discharge location. The operator can select four different mode settings. The four different settings are listed below:

    • Defog.
    • Lower.
    • Bi-Level.
    • Upper.

Defog

Object Number: 82112 Size: SH

The A/C compressor turns on when the ambient temperature is above 4°C (39°F) and runs to keep the evaporator core at about 3°C (37°F).

The blower pulls air into the system. The air is cooled and dehumidified. The adjusted air is heated as necessary. The floor and windshield defroster outlets deliver the heated air. The Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) determines the proper air discharge and positions the temperature valve accordingly. The floor outlets deliver a small amount of heated air.

Lower

Object Number: 82114 Size: SH

The blower pulls air into the system. The Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) determines the proper air discharge and positions the temperature valve accordingly. The floor outlets deliver the heated air. The windshield defroster outlet delivers a small amount of the heated air.

Bi-Level

Object Number: 82117 Size: SH

The blower pulls air into the system. The outside air is cooled or heated. The instrument panel and floor outlets deliver the adjusted outside air.

The Instrument Panel Integration Module (IPM) determines the proper air discharge temperatures and the positions the temperature valve accordingly.

Upper

Object Number: 82115 Size: SH

The blower pulls air into the system. The outside air is cooled or heated. The instrument panel outlets deliver the adjusted outside air.

The instrument panel integration module (IPM) determines the proper air discharge temperatures and positions the temperature valves accordingly.

Front Defrost

Object Number: 82120 Size: SH

The A/C compressor is turned on if the ambient temperature is above 4°C (39°F) and runs to keep the evaporator core at about 3°C (37°F). The DIM module monitors the evaporator core temperature.

The control head illuminates the front defrost LED. The instrument panel integration module (IPM) determines the proper air discharge temperatures and positions the temperature valves accordingly.

The blower motor pulls air into the system. The outside air is cooled, dehumidified, and heated. The windshield defroster outlet delivers the adjusted air. The floor outlet discharges a small amount of the adjusted air.

The recirc function is not available during front defrost mode.

Recirc

Object Number: 284285 Size: SH

When the recirc mode is selected, the system recirculates the air inside of the vehicle for maximum cooling.

The recirc mode function operates in the following air delivery modes:

    • UPPER
    • LOWER
    • DEFOG
    • BI-LEVEL

The recirc mode function will not operate in front defrost mode because this can cause windshield fogging.

The recirc mode function cancels when the driver changes from manual mode to automatic mode.

The control head illuminates the recirc LED.

A/C

Pressing the A/C mode button will turn on the A/C compressor if the ambient temperature is above 4°C (39°F). The compressor keeps the evaporator core at about 3°C (37°F).

The A/C mode is automatically on in front defrost mode. Pressing the A/C mode button while the A/C compressor is on will turn OFF the compressor.

The control head displays the set temperature.

Temperature

With the system in any mode but OFF and temperature between 19°C and 29°C (66°F and 84°F), turning the temperature knob in either direction increases or decreases temperature by one degree. If the knob is turned in the decrease direction to achieve the lowest setting, with the set temperature at 18°C (65°F), temperature drops immediately to 16°C (60°F). If the knob is turned in the increase direction to achieve the highest setting, with set temperature at 29°C (85°F), set temperature will jump immediately to 32°C (90°F). An increase or decrease of the set temperature signals the IPM to take the steps necessary (change blower speed, change air discharge location, change discharge temperature) to bring the interior temperature to the new set temperature. The set temperature is not cleared when the ignition is turned OFF.

The compressor does not operate in OFF or when the A/C button is off therefore cooling the interior of the vehicle beyond the outside air temperature is not possible.

If the temperature knob is rotated when the system is OFF, the system will return to the AUTO setting.
