Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. If either the tilt actuator or the telescope actuator displays Motor Current on the scan tool Data Display, as less than 0 amps and/or more than 10 amps in this step, go to the applicable chart for that actuator being Inoperative.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the tilt/telescoping steering column module connector that contains both battery positive and the ground circuits.
  3. Test both battery positive circuits for an open or high resistance.

  1. Reconnect the tilt/telescoping steering column module connector.
  2. Install a scan tool
  3. Turn ON the ignition.
  4. Observe the Telescope/Tilt Switch parameter in the Tilt/Telescope Module data list while activating the tilt/telescoping manual switch from the Idle position to the Up, Down, In, and Out positions.

Do the parameters change state as expected?

Inspect for poor connections/terminal tension at the tilt/telescoping steering column switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the tilt/telescoping steering column control module.

Replace the tilt/telescoping steering column switch. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Wheel and Telescope Switch Replacement .
