The chimes are used to indicate a system concern or warn the driver of a critical vehicle condition. All audible warnings are generated by the radio. All warning requests are provided to the radio via class 2 serial data messages. The radio sends the required chime signals to the radio amplifier, which sounds the chime through the left front speaker.

The audible warnings consist of both single pulse chimes and multiple pulse chimes. For multiple pulse chimes, the system provides for 3 different pulse rates:

    • Slow -- 50 pulses per minute
    • Medium -- 150 pulses per minute
    • Fast -- 200 pulses per minute

The chimes are prioritized so that if multiple events would require a chime, the chime of highest priority will sound. The chimes are prioritized as follows:

  1. Fast multiple pulse chime
  2. Medium multiple pulse chime
  3. Slow multiple pulse chime
  4. Single pulse chime
