Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Press and release each of the driver information center (DIC) switches.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC switch parameters in the instrument cluster (IPC) data list.
  6. • Display Mode Switch
    • Display Trip Reset Sw.
    • English/Metric Sw.
    • Info. Reset Switch
    • Information Down Switch
    • Information Up Switch
    • On/Off Switch
    • Trip Odometer A/B Switch

Does the scan tool display On when all switches are pressed and Off when all switches are released?

Does the scan tool always display Off for all switches when each switch is pressed?

With a scan tool, observe the Ignition 1 parameter in the instrument cluster (IPC) data list

  1. Turn ON the park lamps.
  2. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  3. Observe the operation of all switches on one DIC switch.
  4. • LH DIC switch:
       - DSPL MODE
       - ENG/MET
       - TRIP RESET
       - TRIP A/B
    • RH DIC switch:
       - ON/OFF
       - INFO RESET
       - INFO Down
       - INFO Up

Does the scan display Off when each switch is pressed for all switches on one DIC switch?

Does the scan tool always display On for the suspect switch?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the suspect DIC switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the suspect DIC switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On?

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the DIC switch for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ignition positive voltage circuit of the instrument cluster (IPC) for one of the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage
    • A high resistance
