For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Place the gear shifter in REVERSE, while holding the vehicle stopped with the brake.
  3. Observe the information center telltale assembly, visible in the rear view mirror.

The three telltales on the information center telltale assembly (one red, two amber) turn on for 1.5 seconds (bulb check).

  1. Move the gear shifter to PARK.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Place a large lightweight object at least 2m (6.5 ft) behind the center of the vehicle. The object must be at least 0.25m (10 in.) high and 8 cm (3 in.) in diameter.
  4. Turn ON the ignition.
  5. Drive the vehicle in reverse at a speed of less than 5 km/h (3 mph).

When the vehicle is 1.0 to 1.5m (3.3 to 4.9 ft) from the object, the following occurs:

    • The telltale assembly illuminates the left amber telltale.
    • One chime sounds.

Continue to slowly move the vehicle in reverse, less than 5 km/h (3 mph).

When the vehicle is 0.5 to 1.0m (1.6 to 3.3 ft) from the object, the telltale assembly illuminates both amber telltales.

Continue to slowly move the vehicle in reverse, less than 5 km/h (3 mph).

When the vehicle is 0.3 to 0.5m (1.0 to 1.6 ft) from the object, the following occurs:

  1. The telltale assembly illuminates the red and the two amber telltales simultaneously.
  2. A continuous chime sounds.

Continue to slowly move the vehicle in reverse, less than 5 km/h (3 mph).

When the vehicle is less than 0.3 m (1.0 ft) from the object, the following occurs:

  1. The telltale assembly flashes the red and the two amber telltales simultaneously.
  2. A continuous chime sounds.)

Drive the vehicle in reverse at a speed of over 5 km/h (3 mph).

The telltale assembly illuminates the red telltale, flashing, to indicate that the URPA system is off (disabled at this speed).

Stop the vehicle and place the gear shifter in PARK.

All telltales on the telltale assembly are off.
