Did you review the body rear end operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the rear compartment lid.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) data list.

Does the scan tool display Off?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release solenoid.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release solenoid and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release solenoid.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Ajar Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Off?

Test the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release solenoid for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the rear compartment lid ajar signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release solenoid for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to voltage
    • A high resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear integration module (RIM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release solenoid. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the RIM. Refer to Rear Integration Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
