Circuit Description

The steering column module determines the position of the steering column based on the following factors:

    • Inputs received from the position sensors, which are built into the tilt actuator
    • The telescoping actuator

The steering column module supplies a 5-volt reference and a ground to these sensors. The module monitors the column position from a tilt position signal circuit and a telescope position signal circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

DTC B1327 is not set as current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This DTC sets as current when the voltage is less than 0.12 volts for 2 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The steering column module will not allow the affected motor to work during memory recall or easy exit operations. However, the motor will still operate during manual switch positioning.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC will clear from current status when the voltage is greater than 0.12 volts for 2 seconds.
    • Use the ON-Board clearing DTCs feature.
    • Use a scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids

Inspect the steering column for abnormal looseness.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, observe the telescope sensor parameter in the tilt/telescope module data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the telescope sensor parameter is greater than the specified value?

0.12 V

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the telescope actuator harness connector from the tilt/telescoping steering column module.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the telescope sensor parameter.

Does the scan tool indicate that the telescope sensor parameter is greater than the specified value?

4.8 V

Go to Step 4

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the telescope actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
