Rattle in IPC at the HUD Unit - noise squeak

Subject:Rattle in IPC at the HUD unit

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

There are three areas which need to be checked should you encounter a rattle or squeak at or near the center of the dash. For the rattle issue, advised the tech to remove the dash pad and road test the vehicle. The noise can sometimes be described as an itch type noise. They are as follows:

  1. Squeak in the IPC near the HUD - When pressing on the IPC in the area of possible contact point the squeak/rattle goes away. A spacer part number 10407149 is being added to the back side of the IPC pad at the HUD. Photo 1 shows the possible contact area. Photos 2 and 3 shows the spacer P/N 10407149 added to the back side of the I/P pad. Since the I/P pad is not easily removed, touch the HUD bezel to see if it squeaks prior to doing this repair.
  2. Squeak more to the center of the dash - Install seven foam pads on the outer edge of the defroster grill opening area. Use a foam pad that is one inch high and has an adhesive back on one side to stick to the underside of the dash pad. There are photos for location purposes in the GMTAC data base.
  3. Metallic/tin rattling sound near center of dash - Remove the dash pad and look at the center speaker to check for a seven millimeter screw facing the rear of the vehicle. This screw has been found to be loose and making a tinny/rattling sound. The sound comes from a bracket being loose that is secured by this seven millimeter screw. Tighten as necessary.
