4.6L (LH2) Engine Blue Exhaust Smoke on Startup - kw camshaft cover cold E6 oil PCV

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

04 Cadillac SRX , XLR, 4.6L (LH2) engine blue exhaust smoke on start up.

1. Remove the engine (rear bank) right camshaft cover per SI Document ID number 822477.
2. Place cam cover with painted surface down on a non-abrasive surface to minimize damage and/or scratches to the painted surface.
3. Remove the six (6) PCV baffle plate screws (8 mm).
4. Remove PCV baffle plate assembly from cam cover.
5. Remove any loose debris from cam cover surface.
6. Apply RTV Bead (use Three-Bond 1217F - GM PN 12378521) onto the cam cover surface along the baffle plate ledge (favoring inside edge).

o Remove any loose debris and apply on a clean and dry surface.

o If the cam cover has been on an operating engine, clean surface with a residue-free solvent.

o Apply RTV using a 3 mm ID nozzle on RTV applicator.

o Apply a 2 to 3 mm wide continuous bead (as marked).

o Apply bead along inside edge of baffle plate ledge (on cam cover).

7. Carefully reinstall PCV baffle plate and push down evenly to assure RTV is squeezed out along the perimeter of the plate.
8. Prior to bolt reinstallation, dip threaded portion of PCV baffle plate bolts approximately 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) (into Loctite 277 Thread-locker (PN 27731) or equivalent.
9. Hand-start all six (6) baffle plate fasteners. Tighten bolts to 5 Nm +/- 1 Nm. Tighten middle two bolts first - start with two middle bolts and work outward.
10. Clean any debris or RTV that may have inadvertently contaminated the cam cover gaskets (spark plug gasket and perimeter gaskets).
11. Make sure gaskets are fully seated in gasket groove.
12. Allow 1 hour to dry prior to re-installing the (rear bank) right camshaft cover on engine per SI Document ID number 822873.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
