Subject: | Frozen Door Glass Procedure - Windows Do Not Index |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis
might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
Condition/Concern:
Frozen Glass Procedure - How to loosen the glass, shut the door, and INITIALIZE
the door glass
During freezing weather, when you open the door, the glass may fail to index
down, causing the glass to bend under the upper channel in order to open.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Perform the following procedure to repair this condition: Note: This procedure
assumes the convertible top is up and properly latched at all positions.
- DO NOT CLOSE THE DOOR IF THE WINDOW HAS NOT INDEXED PRIOR TO THE DOOR
BEING OPENED . The glass will close on top of the upper channel.
- Bringing the vehicle into a heated area will thaw the ice that has formed
and the window can be initialized once the window will move.
- If bringing the vehicle into a heated area for a sufficient period of
time is not possible, proceed as follows: Using a thin non-abrasive tool (like a Popsicle
stick or a piece of cardboard), gently loosen the belt molding’s secondary (bottom)
seal, which is frozen to the outside of the glass. You must go between the door glass
and the belt molding weatherstrip to the depth of approximately an inch to reach the
secondary seal. Be sure to loosen the seal all the way from front to back.
- To prevent this condition from happening in the future perform the following
procedure to the Front Door Window Belt Strip Outer of both doors. Remove the Front
Door Window Belt Strip Outer from both doors as per SI Document ID# 1014870.
- From the underside of the Belt Strip, along the front lower edge trim
160 millimeters off the lower lip. On the rear edge cut 60 millimeters from the lower
lip of the rubber.
- Reinstall both Front Door Window Belt Strip Outers.
- From the window switch, lower the glass to the bottom and hold the switch
in this position for approximately five seconds after the window has gone all the
way down.
- Shut the door. Raise the window to its full up position and hold the
button in this position for approximately five seconds. This will initialize the
window and will allow the indexing procedure to be performed going forward.
