Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Does Not Function Properly, Poor RKE Performance (Replace Receiver, Transmitters and Add External Coax Antenna Cable)

Important: Only vehicles with the following VIN Breakpoints are affected:

Some customers may comment that the RKE key FOB will not function unless they are close to the vehicle. The range of the RKE system is somewhat less than desirable when the vehicle is located near the Tokyo tower.

Replace the remote control door lock receiver, key FOB transmitters and add an external coax antenna cable using the procedure listed below.

1. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to the IP Trim Pad Replacement procedure (SI Document ID  1208183).



2. Remove the retaining screws from the remote control door lock receiver.
3. Remove the remote control door lock receiver (1) from the IP and disconnect the wiring.
4. Connect the wiring and install the new remote control door lock receiver to the IP
5. Install the retaining screws to the remote control door lock receiver.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 2.5 N·m(22 lb in).

6. Connect the new external coax antenna cable (2) to the receiver and route across top of IP and up A-pillar along existing wiring harness. Secure with tape.
7. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to the IP Trim Pad Replacement procedure (SI Document ID 1208183).
8. Setup the new receiver and program both transmitters to the vehicle (SI Document ID 1546503 and 1379837).
