Parking Brake Actuator Replacement Drum Brakes
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the rear tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Disconnect the rear brake cable at the equalizer.
- Remove the parking brake return spring.
- Remove the cable retaining clip.
- Remove the cable from the actuator lever.
- Remove the rear wheel hub assembly. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
in Rear Suspension.
- Remove the parking brake bracket from the support plate.
- Remove the parking brake actuator.
Installation Procedure
- Install the parking brake shoe and lining.
- Install the parking brake actuator.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the parking
brake bracket to the support plate.
Tighten
Tighten the support plate bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the rear wheel hub assembly. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
in Rear Suspension.
- Install the cable to the actuator lever.
- Install the cable retaining clip.
- Install the parking brake return spring.
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the parking brake. Refer to
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment
.
Parking Brake Actuator Replacement Disc Brakes
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support
the vehicle. Refer to

- Remove the rear tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires
and Wheels.
- Disconnect the rear brake cable at the equalizer (3).
- Remove the parking brake
return spring.
- Remove the cable retaining clip (1).
- Remove the cable (2) from the actuator lever.
- Remove the rear wheel hub assembly. Refer to
Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
in Rear Suspension.
- Remove the parking brake
bracket (5) from the support plate (4).
- Remove the parking brake actuator (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the parking brake
shoe and lining.
- Install the parking brake
actuator (2).

Tighten

- Install the cable (2) to the actuator lever.
- Install the cable retaining clip (1).
- Install the parking brake return spring (5).
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the parking brake. Refer to
Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment
