Important: A short to ground will cause an open fuse(s). Before performing this diagnostic procedure, inspect the fuse(s) for an open.

  1. Disconnect the brake switch connector C2.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Can the transaxle be shifted out of PARK?

Check the adjustment of the brake switch C2. If the adjustment of the brake switch is correct, replace the brake switch.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check

Disconnect connector C3 the left IP wiring harness junction block.

Can the transaxle be shifted out of PARK?

Go to Step 4

Repair the short to battery in CKT 1135 between the left IP wiring harness junction block and the brake switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check

Disconnect connector C2 of the left IP wiring harness junction block.

Can the transaxle be shifted out of PARK?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Replace the left IP wiring harness junction block.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check

Disconnect the BTSI solenoid connector.

Can the transaxle be shifted out of PARK?

Go to Step 8

Repair the short to battery in CKT 1135 between the left IP wiring harness junction block and the BTSI solenoid.

Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System Check

  1. Inspect the mechanical park lock cable for proper operation.
  2. If the adjustment is correct, replace the BTSI solenoid.
