Notice: Use of harsh chemicals when cleaning can damage exterior lamps. Suggested
cleaners are a mild soap and water, or Varnish Makers and Painters (VM&P)
Naptha. VM&P Naptha is a specific type of naptha and should
not be substituted by any other naptha.
- Wash the affected panel area using soap and water.
- Wipe the panel dry.
- Use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984 or the equivalent
in order to remove all traces of adhesive from the body panel and the back
of the molding.
- Wipe the panel using a clean cloth and an alcohol/water mixture.
- Use a length of masking
tape or a magnetic strip in order to mark the proper position of the following
components:
- For Pontiac models, use
a length of masking tape or a magnetic strip in order to mark the proper
position of the emblem (1,2).
- For Oldsmobile models,
use a length of masking tape or a magnetic strip in order to mark the proper
position of the emblem.
Important: If the body temperature is below 21°C (70°F) due to the shop
temperature or the outside temperature, warm the body panel with a heat
lamp or a heat gun while proceeding with the next step.
- Apply a double-coated acrylic foam tape such as 3M Super Automotive
Attachment Tape or the equivalent to the molding, the emblem or the nameplate.
There are several different types of this tape:
• | 3M 06380, which has a white backing |
• | 3M 06377, which has a black backing |
• | 3M 06382, which has a gray backing |
- Align the molding, the emblem or the nameplate. Press the molding,
the emblem or the nameplate firmly in place.
