Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front seat back. Refer to Front Seat Back Replacement .
  2. Remove the seat back recliner handle.
  3. Remove the seat cushion outer trim panel.
  4. Remove the front seat cushion cover J-retainers.

  5. Object Number: 280460  Size: SH
  6. Lift the front seat cushion cover in order to access the recliner bolts and the cable.
  7. Remove the cable retaining screw (4).
  8. Remove the cable (2) from the recliner mechanism (5). Disconnect the cable from the recliner by rotating the cable downward approximately 90 degrees.
  9. Remove the seat recliner bolts (3).
  10. Remove the front seat recliner mechanism (5).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 280465  Size: SH

    Important: When installing the outboard recliner mechanism, place the recliner seat back arm (1) in the original position:

    1. Look through the slot (2) located towards the rear edge of the recliner mechanism.
    2. Align the rear edge of the recliner seat back arm (1) with the forward edge of the slot in the recliner seat cushion arm (3).

  1. Install the front seat outboard recliner mechanism.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the front seat recliner bolts (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the seat recliner bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the cable (2) onto the recliner mechanism (5).
  6. Important: Do NOT apply excessive force in order to remove the slack. This action may partially unlatch the inboard recliner.

  7. Remove the cable slack by pulling rearward on the cable casing.
  8. Install the recliner cable retaining screw (4).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  10. Inspect the inboard recliner after installing the cable by pulling back and forth on the recliner seat back arm. Ensure that no play is felt. If play is evident, replace the recliner. Refer to Driver Seat and Passenger Seat Recliner Actuator Cable Replacement .
  11. Inspect the recliner for secure latching.
  12. Install the front seat cushion cover J-retainers.
  13. Install the seat cushion outer trim panel.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1 N·m (9 lb in).

  15. Install the seat back recliner handle.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1 N·m (9 lb in).

  17. Install the front seat back Refer to Front Seat Back Replacement .
